Potentially dangerous weather is a fact of life in Wisconsin, whether it is a blizzard in January or a strong thunderstorm in the middle of the summer.

Governor Walker has proclaimed the week of April 11-15, 2011 as Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin.

In 2010, 46 tornadoes in Wisconsin were confirmed by the National Weather Services, the second greatest yearly number on record. Fortunately, no one was killed but 22 were injured and the tornadoes caused nearly $30 million in property damage.

In 2005, a record 62 tornadoes hit the state of Wisconsin, but that total does not reflect the instances of high winds, lightning, hail and flooding that normally accompany severe thunderstorms.
