What is Emergency Management?
Simply put – mitigation (lessening the effect of or preventing), preparedness, response and recovery. Actually, it is a vital link in a complex network of services, which makes it possible for disasters and emergencies to be dealt with effectively. Although the responsibilities of our office vary greatly and include many different things, our main purpose is to support response agencies and departments within Kewaunee County in the event of a disaster or emergency. Emergency Management is a county office mandated by the State of Wisconsin. It is supported by county funds, most of which is reimbursed though federal and state grants, as well as by Wisconsin Public Service. Emergency Management comprises organized analysis, planning, decision making and assignment of available resources to mitigate (lessen the effect of or prevent), prepare for, respond to and recover from the effects of all hazards. Continuous planning is necessary and has become even more important since the events of September 11, 2001
