Maternal and Child Health

New Mom Visits: A Public Health Nurse will offer a home visit to each first-time mom living within the County.  During this service, information will be shared on infant care, child development, safety, community resources and nutrition. 

Well Water Testing: Pregnant and new mothers are eligible to have a free well water test done to test for bacteria that can harm the fetus or child.

Fluoride Varnishing: Children under age 6 who do NOT get regular dental care due to lack of dental insurance may get a free Fluoride Varnish to protect and strengthen teeth from harmful bacteria.

Car Seat Checks:  Free car seat checks (or installation) are available with an appointment by a nurse nationally certified on infant and child car seats.

Prenatal Care Coordination: Consultation is available to any individual experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.  The nurse will provide information about community resources, access to healthcare, cessation from smoking, as well as teaching on pregnancy, labor and delivery, and infant care.

Pregnancy Testing: Free pregnancy testing, counseling and referral to an appropriate medical provider is available to any woman within the county. 

Teen Parent Services:  Kewaunee County Public Health nurses are available to counsel any pregnant or parenting teen.  Pregnancy information will be provided as well as access information to community resources.  A teen parent program staff member will meet regularly with the teen to help insure the teen receives all necessary health care and successfully completes school.
