  BUSINESS WASTE

Businesses operating within Kewaunee County must arrange with their private waste disposal company for recycling services.  Wisconsin's Recycling Law and local ordinances require all businesses and building owners to recycle the items listed here:

  • Aluminum cans, steel (tin) cans, aerosol cans & major appliances

  • Glass bottles & jars

  • Office paper, newspaper, magazines, corrugated cardboard

  • Plastic containers (#1 & 2)

  • Tires, motor oil & filters

  • Yard materials: grass clippings, leaves & brush

The Wisconsin DNR website has the Small Business Assistance Permit Primer, which provides a step-by-step, question & answer tour of DNR regulatory programs to help you:

  • determine which environmental requirements apply to you,

  • determine what permits you need and how to get them, and

  • find ways to save money and resources through pollution prevention, waste minimization, conservation and resource protection.

To access the Permit Primer, go to: http://dnr.wi.gov/permitprimer/index.html

Two hundred million tires are thrown away each year. Thirty-five percent of truck tires are recapped and so are five to ten percent of car tires. They are given new treads and used again. When mixed with asphalt, recycled tires can make airport runways, running tracks, and highway surfaces softer and more flexible. The rubber can be used for doormats and be used to heat cement kilns.

Follow the three "R's".....

Reduce--first

Reuse--what you can't reduce

Recycle--what you can't reuse
