Requirements for Marriage License
WHERE TO APPLY: County Clerk's Office, 810 Lincoln Street, Kewaunee WI
HOURS: 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday thru Friday. Administration Office is closed on Saturdays and Sundays and all legal holidays.
WHEN TO APPLY: Application must be made at least 5 full days before the ceremony.
AGE: Persons are of age to marry without parental consent at age of 18. Between 16 and 18 years of age are required to submit signed forms of both parents or guardians at time, or prior to, application.
FEE: The fee for the marriage license is $50.00
WAITING PERIOD: Upon the application, a 5-day waiting period is required before license may be issued, excluding the day of application. The license is good for 30 days from issuance date.
SPECIAL DISPENSATION: A 5-day waiting period is required by law, but may be waived for a good cause by the County Clerk for a fee of $5.00.
PROCEDURE FOR RESIDENTS:
1. Both Parties make application at the office of the County Clerk.
2. Furnish proof of identification and residence. (Driver's License)
3. Both parties must furnish:
Certified Birth Certificates
Social Security Number
Place of birth
Place of intended marriage (City, Village or Town, and County)
Date of intended marriage
Name of officiant
Years of education
4. Copies of judgment of divorce, annulment papers or death certificates and dates.
5. Residents of the state must apply before the County Clerk of the county in which either is a resident. They may be married in any county in the state. One of the residents must have resided in Kewaunee County for at least 30 days prior to the date of making application for a license.
PROCEDURE FOR NON-RESIDENTS: The procedure for two non-residents is the same as for residents except that the marriage license must be obtained in the county in which the couple plans to be married.
