Department requests are submitted to the County Administrator in August.
The County Administrator compiles all recommended requests into the Administrator’s Proposed Budget and submits it to the Finance Committee and County Board in September.
The Finance Committee reviews the Administrator’s recommendations, adjusts as they deem necessary, and presents the Finance Committee Proposed Budget to the County Board by the November meeting. The full County Board reviews and makes final adjustments before voting to adopt the annual budget in November.
All changes to the budget, once adopted, must be approved by Board resolution.
Budget Changes after Adoption
Unexpected or unforeseen events may create a need to revise the annual budget.
The adopted budget can be revised by:
- County Administrator approval is needed if:
- Under $1000 & within a department.
- Oversight committee & Finance Committee approval is required if:
- Under $20,000, within a department, & contingency or fund balance used.
- Oversight committee, Finance Committee, & County Board approval required if:
- Over $20,000, new funding, & all others not specifically listed above
