An individual may be placed involuntarily under a court order of commitment if they are found to be mentally ill, alcohol dependent, or drug dependent.

Mental Commitment records are confidential.

Any person subject to an involuntary commitment proceeding is eligible for representation by an attorney appointed by the State Public Defender.
