IT Specialist Job Description
Kewaunee County is seeking a diligent IT specialist to take care of all our IT needs. You will be responsible for installing or upgrading components, setting up software, assisting with network administration, and resolving all IT support issues.
To be successful as an IT specialist, you should have an in-depth knowledge of various computer hardware and software technologies. Top candidates will also have an amiable personality and an aptitude for customer service.

Characteristic Work of the Position
Nature: Under the general supervision of the Director, Information Services, the IT Specialist will be responsible for installing or upgrading components, setting up software, assisting with network administration, and resolving all IT support issues. The position with work directly with County Departments providing technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, or software. Respond to queries, run diagnostic programs, isolates problems, and determines and implements solutions. This position will also provide a direct backup to the Information Services Director.
 
IT Specialist Responsibilities:
Installing new software and hardware components.
Regularly evaluating our IT systems to ensure they meet the necessary demands.
Assisting with network administration tasks.
Ensuring data storage is safe and secure.
Resolving all issues coworkers have with their IT systems and software.
Educating coworkers about network security and best practices for computer usage.
Supporting the day-to-day operations of our computer network.
Working knowledge of relevant operating systems, software and programming
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Great customer service and interpersonal skills

Qualifications:
Essential Knowledge and Abilities:
Good understanding of computer systems, mobile devices and other tech products. Knowledge of office automation products, databases and remote control.
Working knowledge of relevant operating systems, software and programming
Computer literacy using DOS/Windows and associated software programs.
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to diagnose and resolve basic technical issues. Efficient troubleshooting abilities.
Ability to work independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team. Work well under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing environment.
Good organization, time management and prioritization.
Keen attention to detail. Manages time effectively and prioritizes competing tasks to meet deadlines.
Effective communication skills, including speaking, writing and active listening
Great customer service and interpersonal skills. Customer-oriented and cool-tempered.
Proven experience as a help desk technician or other support role, preferred.

IT Specialist Requirements:
High school diploma.
Degree in computer science or a related field is preferable.
Professional certification (e.g. CCNS, CISSP, MCSE). Is preferred.
Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
Valid Wisconsin driver’s license is required.
Must have the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Supervision:  This position reports directly to the Director of Information Services.
 
Physical Demands: Performance of routine tasks associated with this position requires a capacity to intermittently sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift moderately heavy (up to 50 pound) objects. The performance of tasks involves mainly inside, protected from weather conditions.
