Court Security Officer, $35.80/hour, part-time temporary/limited term

 As a Court Security Officer, you will play an essential role in ensuring a secure environment for court staff and attendees while coordinating closely with court officials to maintain order. This position demands the ability to manage high-stress situations, respond to emergencies, and enforce the law with professionalism and sound judgment. Hours for this position are determined based on the court schedule and security needs, typically averaging a varying number of hours per pay period. Required: Certification by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board, High School diploma and a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited school. Must possess a  valid Wisconsin Drivers license. Ability to pass a medical physical exam, psychological exam, and background check.

This position is to maintain the most effective enforcement of Federal and State laws and ordinances for the preservations of public peace, protection of property, prevention of crime, and the arrest and conviction of violators.  Provides courtroom security for the Circuit Court, Juvenile Court and Family Court in the courthouse.  Provides security in and around the courthouse during times when the courthouse is open for regular business and/or court is in session.
 
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
 
1.Coordinates with Circuit Court Judge, District Attorney, Clerk of Courts and Family Court Commissioner to provide courtroom security in the Kewaunee County Courthouse.  Check for weapons at times and in a manner directed by the Court and/or Sheriff.
 
2.Conduct periodic uniformed foot patrol in and around the courthouse when not required to be present in court.  Deals with disruptive and disorderly persons in and around the courthouse.
 
3.Escort prisoners from jail to court. Record details of the prisoner’s appearance what need to e entered in the jail records.
 
4.Serve as court officer for traffic court.
 
5.Investigate bad check complaints
 
6.Assist in the investigation of threats within the court system.
 
7.Perform such other duties as directed by the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, Lieutenant or Sergeants.
 
8.May be required to assist with jail/dispatch functions as directed by sergeant or lieutenant.

9.Effect an arrest or restrain an inmate, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints, subdue resisting inmates or suspects using maneuvers and weapons, and resort to the use of hands and feet and other approved weapons or devices in self-defense.
 
10.Transport prisoners to and from court as well as other jails, prisons, hospitals, mental hospitals and other facilities.
 
11.Perform weapon and contraband searches of people, vehicles, mail items and objects, building and large outdoor areas, which may require feeling for small objects, walking for long periods of time and taking people into custody.
 
12.Load, unload, aim and proficiently fire from a variety of body positions, handguns, shotguns, and other agency firearms under stressful conditions that may justify the use of deadly force.
 
13.Conduct visual and audio surveillance for extended periods of time.
 
14.Process all traffic and County ordinances and violations, to include computer entries.
 
15.Signs complaints in the District Attorneys office regarding bad checks and traffic cases.

8.Knowledge of office and department terminology, polices, practices and procedures.

9.Ability to work without daily supervision and make accurate, rapid, independent decisions regarding panning, scheduling, and in completing work priorities and scheduling duties.  Excellent organizational skills high level of maturity and accuracy and strong degree of self-direction and motivation is required.
 
10.Knowledge of federal and state constitutions, stare laws and county ordinances.
 
11.Knowledge of basic computer operation, including entering, retrieving, storing and changing information.
 
12.Ability to type accurate, meaningful reports.
 
13.Ability to communicate effectively with public, other officers and staff.
 
14.Ability to deal with prisoners, suspects and criminals in an appropriate manner.
 
15.Ability to maintain control of large groups or potentially dangerous situations.
 
16.Ability to evaluate dangerous or criminal situations to determine appropriate assistance needed and take actions as needed.
 
17.Ability to interview and gather facts from witnesses and victims in an appropriate manner.
 
18.Ability to safely handle, and effectively use, police related weapons including firearms, impact weapons and chemical sprays.
 
19.Ability to safely and effectively drive motor vehicles at high rates of speed and under all types of conditions.
 
20.Ability to meet physical demands of the position.  Eyesight must be acceptable without glasses or must have corrective lenses.  Hearing must not be impaired.
 
21.Ability to pass reasonable health requirements, including physical, mental and drug screening.
 
22.Ability to professionally act as a member of a team, accept instructions and orders and display a high level of self-discipline.
 
23.Pursue fleeing inmates or suspects and perform rescue operations and other duties which may involve quickly entering and exiting secured areas and law enforcement patrol vehicles, lifting, carrying and dragging heavy objects, climbing through openings, jumping over obstacles, ditches and streams, crawling in confined areas, balancing on uneven or narrow surfaces and using bodily force to gain entrance.
 
 
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 
 
1.Certification by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board, High School diploma and a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited school.
 
2.Must possess a  valid Wisconsin Drivers license.
 
3.Working knowledge of the Court System.
 
4.Knowledge of laws and ordinances and of departmental rules, regulation, policies and procedures.
 
5.Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
 
6.Ability to pass a medical physical exam, psychological exam, and background check.
 
 
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
 
1.Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as operating a firearm and physical restraint devices.  Ability to operate a motor vehicle and familiarity with various office equipment.
 
2.Must be in good physical condition with the ability to occasionally exercise strenuous strength and agility, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, grabbing, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.
 
3.Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, forms, sounds and odors associated with job-related objects, materials and ingredients.
 
4.The performance of tasks may involve risks to the physical safety or health of law enforcement officers operating under emergency conditions, and may require the use of firearms.  Work may occasionally be performed outdoors in cold or inclement weather.
 
5.Must have 20/20 vision or correctable to 20/20
 
6.Hearing ability in each ear must not exceed threshold failure limit of 20 dB at 1,000 Hz, 2,000 Hz, and 4,000 Hz.  Hearing correction options are allowed as long as the deputy can safely perform his/her duties.
