UW Madison Division of Extension agriculture educators held their Manure Applicator Training 101 in Luxemburg this week.
Designed to help manure applicators and farmers think through real-world scenarios—like spills, road closures, sensitive waterways, or conversations with neighbors—the training now features interactive, map-based learning where participants use satellite maps and scaled draglines to problem-solve together.
Created in 2003 in partnership with industry and insurers to promote professionalism and reduce risk, the program has led to an 85% drop in claimable incidents and significant insurance savings for participants.
Continually evolving to meet industry needs, the training equips both custom applicators and farm employees with practical decision-making skills that protect their businesses, their communities, and the environment.
