Kewaunee County Opens Registration for Annual Back to School Program

KEWAUNEE, WI – The Kewaunee County Public Health Department has opened up registration for its annual Back to School Program, which helps provide some the required school supplies for approximately 300 children of families in need each year.

The families who qualify for assistance are those on WIC, Food Share or Badger Care, as well as, those who partake in the free or reduced breakfast or lunch programs or have found themselves in an emergency situation.

“The Back to School Program is a way for us to provide some of the necessary tools that children need to learn in the classroom and to study at home,” said Cindy Kinnard, RN, Director of Kewaunee County Public Health Department. “Each family that we register has a different financial situation for different reasons, and this program really helps.”

Families with students attending public or parochial schools who are in grades 4K-High School or those who are home schooled, may pick up a registration form at the Kewaunee County Public Health Department, 810 Lincoln Street, Kewaunee; Algoma Public Library, 406 Fremont Street, Algoma; Kewaunee Public Library, 822 Juneau Street, Kewaunee; or print one off from the Kewaunee County website at www.kewauneeco.org; or call the Health Department for a form to be mailed.

The deadline to turn in registration forms in person or by mail back to the Kewaunee County Public Health Department is Monday, August 2, 2021. Those who meet the registration deadline will be first to pick up supplies. Forms received after the deadline will still be accepted, but those families will be assigned a later supply pick up time. A postcard notifying registrants of their assigned time will be mailed out about a week before the event. NO phone registrations are being accepted.

School supplies will be distributed on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Lakehaven Hall, 96 Ellis Street, Kewaunee between 12:30-5:00 p.m. Those who are not registered but still qualify, may come to Lakehaven Hall on distribution day from 4:30-5:00 p.m.
