Governor Evers approves WIS 42 improvements in Kewaunee County
Construction north of city of Kewaunee begins August 23, 2021

(Kewaunee) To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers signed a $3.7 million contract to improve 14 miles of WIS 42 from Duvall Street in the city of Kewaunee to the North Kewaunee/Door County Line through the towns of Pierce and Ahnapee. No work will take place in the city of Algoma between Feld Street and West Greenfield Avenue. The project will begin Monday, August 23 and expected to finish in mid-October of this year. WIS 42 will remain open during construction.

Northeast Asphalt, Inc. from Greenville, Wis. is the Prime Contractor.

Project improvements
This is a resurfacing-level project with a 40-day working contract. Construction includes milling 2” and resurfacing 2” of the existing asphaltic lanes and shoulders, widening of paved shoulders, adding gravel to existing shoulders, centerline and edge line rumble strips, beam guard upgrades, and associated minor grading, and pavement marking.
  • No work will take place in the city of Algoma between Feld Street and West Greenfield Avenue.
Traffic impacts
WIS 42 will remain open to traffic throughout construction with flagging operations as necessary.

Project benefits
The project will reduce roadway roughness and provide a smoother driving surface for motorists. The improvements will also extend to life of the existing pavement. Upgrades to beam guard and the addition of centerline and edge line rumble strips will enhance safety.

NOTE: WIS 42 Project south of city of Kewaunee continues

An ongoing resurfacing and culvert replacement project south of the city of Kewaunee to the south Kewaunee County line will continue during this project. The WIS 42 closure for the southern WIS 42 Project will remain in place through September. Construction information on both WIS 42 projects in Kewaunee County can be found on the web at https://projects.511wi.gov/42southkew/.Work Zone Safety
