Snowmobile Trails to Open in Kewaunee County
KEWAUNEE COUNTY, WI – The snowmobile trails in Kewaunee County are set to open in three of four sections on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 6AM, and two of those sections include use of the Ahnapee State Trail.
Trails will open in sections 1 (Red River area), 2 (Algoma area), and 4 (Kewaunee area). At this time, section 3 (Luxemburg area) will remain closed.
Kewaunee County has six snowmobile clubs that maintain the County’s nearly 205 miles of trail as well as give condition updates to the Promotions & Recreation Department.
“We have enough snow to allow some of our trails to open in overall good condition, however snowmobilers should exercise caution and watch for bare spots in the fields and icy patches, and look out for groomers as clubs continue to work on trails,” said Dave Myers, Director of Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation. “We also ask that snowmobilers respect private property when out and do not veer off marked trails.”
To use public trails, snowmobilers are required to buy an annual Wisconsin Snowmobile Trail Pass through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Trails passes are $10 for Wisconsin residents who are members of a snowmobile club that is affiliated with the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs (AWSC), $30 for Wisconsin residents not affiliated with AWSC and $50 for out-of-state residents.
Snowmobilers can call the Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation Department 24/7 hotline for trail condition updates, (920) 388-7199 and find maps on the Kewaunee County website www.kewauneeco.org on the Promotions & Recreation Department page under the Trails section as well as the Visit Kewaunee County website www.visitkewauneecounty.com under the Explore section.
