Snowmobile Trails to Close in Kewaunee County
KEWAUNEE COUNTY, WI – This week’s forecasted winter warm-up will close all snowmobile trails in Kewaunee County beginning Monday, February 22, 2021 at 6AM.
The trails had opened on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 6AM in sections 1 (Red River area), 2 (Algoma area), and 4 (Kewaunee area) as well as use of the Ahnapee State Trail. The trail conditions were not satisfactory for section 3 (Luxemburg area) to open, so it had remained closed.
Kewaunee County has six snowmobile clubs that maintain the County’s nearly 205 miles of trail as well as give condition updates to the Promotions & Recreation Department.
“We had a decent five day run and we would like to stay open longer, unfortunately our snowmobile clubs know that the predicted warmer weather will deteriorate our snow base making the trails unusable,” said Dave Myers, Director of Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation. “We are hoping to reopen the snowmobile trails again this season if the weather cooperates.”
The Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation Department will continue to update trail conditions on its 24/7 hotline, (920) 388-7199 if conditions change.
