From the Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department:
We recently received information from a concerned party regarding a scam call they had received regarding Jury Duty. The scammers were posing as Deputies from the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department and advised the concerned party they were being held in contempt and a warrant was going to be issued if they did not pay a fine. The phone call was found to be a scam when the scammers requested payment via Walmart or CVS.
Things to help identify a scam vs. legitimate Jury Duty Summons:
- Anyone selected to verify information regarding Jury Duty will receive a letter via USPS from the Kewaunee County Clerk of Courts.
- The Sheriff’s Department has NO involvement with Jury Duty or the Jury Duty Selection process.
- The Sheriff’s Department and the Clerk of Courts will NOT request anyone to pay fines via Walmart or CVS.
