Donations Needed for Kewaunee County Back to School Program

KEWAUNEE, WI – The Kewaunee County Public Health Department is seeking the help of local businesses and community members to fill the backpacks of area students with supplies for the upcoming school year for its annual Back to School Program, which helps approximately 300 kids each year.

Registration is currently underway and donations are being accepted for distribution at Lakehaven Hall, 96 Ellis Street on Wednesday, August 19, 2020.

The program aims to provide some the required school supplies for children of families in need. The families who qualify for assistance are those on WIC, Food Share or Badger Care, as well as, those who partake in the free or reduced breakfast or lunch programs or have found themselves in an emergency situation.

“This next school year is going to be extremely critical in helping as many students as we can because of the financial impact that COVID-19 may have had on some families,” said Cindy Kinnard, RN, Director of Kewaunee County Public Health Department.

Families in need of a Back to School Program registration form for students attending public or parochial schools or those who are home schooled, may pick up a form at the Kewaunee County Public Health Department, 810 Lincoln Street, Kewaunee or Kewaunee Public Library, 822 Juneau Street, Kewaunee or call the Health Department and a form can be mailed. The deadline to turn in registration forms is Monday, August 3, 2020.

Those who meet the registration deadline will be first to pick up supplies and sent a postcard notifying them of their assigned time. Forms received after the August 3rd deadline will still be accepted, but those families will be assigned a later supply pick up time. NO phone registrations are being accepted. Back to School Program walk-ins may come to Lakehaven Hall on Wednesday, August 19th from 4:30-5:00 p.m.

Those who would like to help the Back to School Program, may do so in several ways with either a financial or supply donation before Monday, August 10, 2020.
