Kewaunee County Presented with $100K Matching Donation for
New Bruemmer Park Zoo Exhibit

KEWAUNEE, WI – Kewaunee County is planning to break ground on a new exhibit at Bruemmer Park Zoo in 2021 with the help of a generous $100,000 matching donation by the same member of the Bruemmer family who had also recently come forward with $20,000 designated to purchase four life-size animal statues for the zoo’s green space.

This time, Steve Bruemmer, grandson of Leo Bruemmer and great-nephew of Otto Bruemmer, the sons of Kewaunee County Judge Louis Bruemmer, whom Bruemmer Park was named in honor of in 1930, made an offer to make plans for an expansive pheasant exhibit a reality. The $100,000 donation will be matched by Kewaunee County after receiving support from the Kewaunee County Board of Supervisors as well as the Zoological Society of Kewaunee County, a non-profit friends group that fundraises for zoo improvements, bringing the budgeted grand total for the new addition to $300,000.

“This pheasant exhibit will be the first new exhibit at Bruemmer Park Zoo in decades,” said Dave Myers, Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation Director. “We have plans to include a dozen different species of pheasant, which can be quite colorful birds, making this a great attraction.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring something unique to the Bruemmer Park Zoo,” said Pam Zander, President of the Zoological Society of Kewaunee County. “Bruemmer Park Zoo is a special place, and we have our supporters to thank for keeping it going.”
